Top Ten Wedding Moments

by lizzy on July 27, 2011

Instead of trying to describe our wedding day to you as a whole (I’ve been trying for hours and can’t seem to write anything down that makes any sense), I decided to describe my favorite 10 moments. Thanks to The Youngrens for taking such fabulous pictures of our wedding day.

You can see more of these images here! And if you like them almost as much as we do, be sure to let The Youngrens know what you think!

1. The Pancakes

It’s easy to get sucked into the chaos of your wedding day. And it’s easy to forget to take in each precious moment. Starting the day with a simple breakfast at one of our favorite spots, was the perfect way to set the tone for the day. Just the two of us in our sweat pants, eating some pancakes and eggs in the middle of a restaurant where no one knew our plans for the day.

2. The Hairspray

Two years ago, my sister and her bridesmaids (me included) got ready at our second parent’s house down the street. It’s a house full of as many memories as our own, memories that are framed and cover the walls. It was such a special moment to get ready for the next chapter of my life in that house- a house that holds the memories of each chapter before.

My mom and my sister helped me put on my dress and then helped me put on my bracelet and handed me my handkerchief. The bracelet is my Mom’s, a gift from my dad 18 years ago that he brought back from Saipan after being away on business for a month. My Mom used the same handkerchief on her wedding day, and so did my sister, it still has the mascara remnants from my Mom’s tears.

3. The First Look

I’m so thankful for our great friends and photographers, The Youngrens. They truly create a special moment for their couples to first see each other on their wedding day. It was an emotional experience with lots of laughter and tears, but above all just time for us to be together and once again take in the moment.

4. The Aisle

Although he probably wouldn’t admit it, my Dad and I had been working toward that moment for a long time. When we reached the end of the aisle and stood in front of Ipp, Pastor Dave Roberts led us through our pledges. Standing with my Dad, and with my Mom seated by my side, I pledged my life to my husband and they gave me away.

5. The Worship

I love worshiping and being able to hear the group of voices singing with me. It’s so powerful! It was so special have that moment in the beginning of our ceremony, to take the moment in and worship with our friends and family.

6. The Unity Ceremony

I have to admit that I do have a favorite moment from our wedding day. We called it our “Unity Ceremony,” a time during our wedding where the communities that raised us came forward and gave us a meaningful token—something that we could keep and share with future generations.

One of these tokens was given to me by my Grandma, on behalf of my late Grandpa (my Papa). It was his pocket watch. And while I will cherish this gift for all of my life, by giving it to me on my wedding day, my Grandma gave me more than I think she knew. She gave me a moment—a reminder—that my Grandpa was there with me on my wedding day.

7. The Kiss

Confession, we had been working on the kiss for months! We had kept it a secret from everyone else and were so proud when we pulled it off. We felt like we were being way more complicated and daring that it actually was, but that was part of the fun of it!

8. The House

Our reception was held at our house, the same house that we partied at two years ago when Steph and Sean got married. The same house that has my baby pictures on the walls, that Ipp visited the first time we hung out, and that our friends hang out at every Sunday.

9. The Drinks

As you might have guessed from Sunday Sipping (we need to do more of that ;)), our crew has a special appreciation for cocktails. In the past year Ipp and I have really found a love for mixology! So, it made sense for us to have mixologists at our wedding! We got to work with them to pick create 5 fabulous cocktails to share with our guests and they were de-lish! (We will share some of these recipes with you soon!)

10. The Dancing

We are so lucky to have family and friends that have no dancing inhibition (especially when combined with fine cocktails)! Tricky Dicky (aka my Dad) and DJ Chad Dolla Bills Hines took over the dance floor and the chaos began. Words can’t describe the hilarious fun that took place that night!

BONUS: The Cops

Yes, the cops broke up our wedding. Apparently we violated the fun code- too much fun.
